Cyrill obtained his MSc Degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology, Compiègne (UTC), France. He then pursued a PhD in Toxicology at the Radio-Toxicology Laboratory of the French National Institute for Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety. His PhD studies focused on the neurochemical and neurobehavioural effects of chronic ingestion of uranium in rat brains. After a postdoctoral project on the biocompatibility of innovative nanocoatings for implants and prosthesis at the UTC, he moved to the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) at the Faculty of Medicine Mondor-Créteil. During this time he evaluated how the physico-chemical properties of carbon nanotubes may influence their biological impact on pulmonary macrophages. Part of this work was performed at the Laboratoire de Physique des Solides, University of Paris Sud-Orsay. Cyrill joined the Nanomedicine Lab in January 2010 as a visiting post-doctoral scientist and was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship in 2011, to work on the pros and cons of using carbon nanotubes for brain drug delivery. Upon successful completion of his MC Fellowship in 2013, Cyrill joined the University of Manchester as a Lecturer in Nanosafety.
